Rk. Gupta et al., ASPIRATION CYTODIAGNOSIS OF CLEAR-CELL HEPATOCELLULAR-CARCINOMA IN ANELDERLY WOMAN - A CASE-REPORT, Acta cytologica, 38(3), 1994, pp. 467-469
The cytohistologic features of a clear cell hepatocellular carcinoma a
re described. The case occurred in an elderly woman. An aspirate was o
btained from a solitary mass in the right lobe of the liver. The liver
carcinoma was found to be the clear cell type, with infrequent bile a
nd hyaline (Mallory body-like) bodies in the cytoplasm. The fact that
clear cell type hepatocellular carcinoma possesses specific cellular c
haracteristics and immunocytochemical features renders this case repor
t useful in establishing a correct cytohistologic diagnosis, especiall
y since this tumor variant shows a striking resemblance to ''clear cel
l'' tumors that originate in other organs and that may cause a diagnos
tic dilemma.
