A three-year solid oxide fuel cells (SOFC) development program complet
ed in 1992 has produced 10 cm2 cells with area-specific resistances in
the range 0.25 to 0.40 OMEGA cm2 at 1000-degrees-C. Cathode and inter
connect materials were produced in the program. Sintering of electrode
s, electrolyte and interconnect was done in air at 1300-degrees-C. Tes
ts with small stacks yielded promising results. Electrochemical invest
igations have contributed to the understanding of the electrode proces
ses and their kinetics.
