Jay is a cultivar of orchardgrass (Dactylis glomerata L.) developed by
the Crop Science Department, University of Guelph. It was developed b
y half-sib progeny testing for yield, leafiness, and late-maturity. It
is similar in herbage yield and plant height but slightly later matur
ing than the cultivar Kay. Jay is suited for situations where a late-m
aturing orchardgrass is desired.
