A survey is given of applications of Raman spectroscopy in materials c
haracterization. The following topics are covered: Analytical characte
rization of glasses in the system PbO-B2O3 and of glasses and ceramics
in the system SrO-B2O3-Al2O3-TiO2; investigation and discussion of th
e so-called Boson peak in the Raman spectra of glasses; Raman spectra
obtained with a microscope attachment of carbonaceous materials to stu
dy the orientation of graphite planes in films and fibres.
