Abstract
The ability of strains of Bacteroides fragilis species isolated from f aeces of diarrheic pigs to adhere to intestinal cells of pig was inves tigated. Eficiency of adherence was from 58.8 +/- 0.2 to 4.5 +/- 0.2 b acteria per cell. All of the strains had fimbriae. We have found no co rrelation between the presence of fimbriae and haemagglutination. The haemaggluting strains had greater efficiency of adhrence than strains unable to agglutinate erythrocytes.
