Abstract
We consider an ideal mesoscopic cylinder in which a steady azimuthal c urrent is generated. We show that the closed interacting-electron syst em in the presence of the current is described by a density matrix whi ch is that of an equilibrium system without current but with a constra ined Hamiltonian.
