The laser selective excitation of the fluorescence of Eu3+ ions is use
d to study CaF2 : Eu3+ for high Eu3+ concentrations ranging from 2 to
20%. As early as 2% the fluorescence lines are arising from three main
groups of activators centers which have tetragonal and orthorhombic o
r monoclinic symmetries. When Eu3+ concentration increases, a fourth g
roup of centers appears. At 20% only this last group of centers remain
s.
