The uncombable hair syndrome (UHS) is a rare disorder with usual onset
in infancy. It is characterized clinically by dry, frizzy, spangled a
nd unruly hair. Evaluation with the scanning electron microscopy (SEM)
characteristically shows longitudinal grooving of the hair shafts. We
present a case in which trichoptilosis was also noted on SEM. This fi
nding has not been previously reported in this condition. A review of
reported features of UHS is also included.
