Abstract
Chemical investigation of Curculigo capitulata yielded two new norlign ans, (+)-(1R,2S)- and (-)-(1S,2S)-1-O-butylnyasicosides (1, 2), and th e known nyasicoside (3) from the BuOH-soluble fraction of the rhizomes . An alternative study devoid of n-BuOH yielded two additional novel n orlignans, 3 ''-dehydroxynyasicoside (4) and 1-O-methylnyasicoside (5) , in addition to 3. The pharmacological studies indicated that 1 and 3 possessed potent activity against ouabain-induced arrhythmia in the h eart preparations of guinea pig.
