The phase diagrams of the spin-1/2 transverse Ising model with random
interactions are investigated within the framework of the effective fi
eld theory using an improved configurational averaging procedure. Gene
ral formulae, applicable to lattices with coordination number z, are g
iven. Numerical results are presented for a simple cubic lattice. It i
s found that the effects of a transverse field on the phase diagrams e
xhibit a number of interesting phenomena.
