M. Shima et al., STRUCTURAL AND MAGNETIC-PROPERTIES OF NONEQUILIBRIUM FE-TI-AL ALLOYS PRODUCED BY VAPOR QUENCHING, Journal of magnetism and magnetic materials, 134(1), 1994, pp. 13-24
The structural and magnetic properties of nonequilibrium Fe1-y(Ti1-xAl
x)y alloys produced by facing-target-type dc sputtering have been inve
stigated by X-ray diffraction, magnetization and Mossbauer effect meas
urements mainly for y - 0.2 and 0.4. It has been revealed that a singl
e bcc phase exists at the Fe-rich corner and the bcc phase is more sta
ble on the Al side than the Ti side. An amorphous phase is formed in t
he wide concentration region from the center to the Fe-poor side of th
e triangle phase diagram. For Fe0.8 (Ti1-xAlx)0.2 alloys, the Curie te
mperatures of the amorphous alloys (0.05 < x < 0.35) are much lower th
an those of the bcc alloys. It was found that bcc alloys near the phas
e boundary to the amorphous phase (x = 0.38) have a fairly small coerc
ive force of about 15 Oe. For Fe0.6(Ti1-xAlx)0.4 alloys, the magnetic
properties are not so different between the bcc and the amorphous stat
e.
