T. Pobel et al., SPECTINOMYCIN (SPECTAM(R)GA) IN THERAPY O F BOVINE RESPIRATORY-DISEASES DUE TO PASTEURELLA-HAEMOLYTICA OR PASTEURELLA-MULTOCIDA ASSOCIATED OR NOT TO MYCOPLASMA-BOVIS, Revue de Medecine Veterinaire, 148(1), 1997, pp. 47-54
A multicentred, randomised and double blind clinical trial comparing t
he efficacy of spectinomycin (SPECTAM(R)GA) administered intramuscular
ly at 20 mg/kg for 3 days every 12 or every 24 hours was conducted on
142 bovines (321 +/- 95 kg, 10,0 +/- 3.3 months) suffering from respir
atory disease due to Pasteurella spp. or Mycoplasma bovis. Whatever th
e etiology, no difference was found between the groups neither on rect
al temperature, standardized clinical score, cure rate on Day 3 (86 %
and 92 % respectively) and on Day 10 (86 % and 87 %) nor on relapse ra
te (8.2 % and 7.7 %). The product was as effective on Pasteurella spp.
as on Mycoplasma bovis. It was concluded that administration once a d
ay is preferable.
