The value of (99m)Technetium-mercapto acetyl triglycine (Tc-99m MAG3)
in the investigation of 10 children with suspected multicystic dysplas
tic kidney (MCDK) has been assessed. The condition has to be distingui
shed from hydronephrosis, usually caused by pelviureteric junction obs
truction. Based on our findings, we propose that Tc-99m MAG3 replace T
c-99m DMSA because it allows a better assessment of the contralateral
kidney and permits a full assessment where the diagnosis is hydronephr
osis rather than MCDK.
