Kinetics of accumulation of acetic acid and radicals in the process of
photolysis of cellulose acetate was studied at room temperature in a
wide range of light intensities. The radicals taking part in the photo
lysis were identified. Acetic acid is shown to be formed in the chain
photolysis of acetoxyalkyl radicals. The scheme of photolysis which qu
antitatively explains the data obtained is suggested.
