The reactivity ratios of monomers and the rates of terpolymerization a
nd binary copolymerization of N-vinylpyrrolidone (VP), acrylic acid (A
A), and 2-methyl-5-vinylpyridine (MVP) in a water-isopropanol solution
were determined. The impossibility of calculating the composition of
a terpolymer from binary copolymerization data in the case of monomers
capable to form H-bonded complexes was shown. This follows from diffe
rent conditions for complexation in binary and ternary monomeric syste
ms.
