Abstract
Streptomyces cinnamonensis produces butyraldehyde, isobutyraldehyde an d valeraldehyde in concentrations of 9-39 mu g ml(-1), with the averag e molar ratio being 22:33:45. These aldehydes, excreted into fermentat ion broth or agar, were derivatised with 2,4-dinitrophenylhydrazine, i solated, and their structures were determined by H-1, C-13 NMR and mas s spectrometry. The highest production of aldehydes was observed in su rface cultivation on agar.
