Abstract
The cage vibrational frequencies of Na+ ions in sodium borovanadate gl asses have been examined using far-infrared spectroscopy. The glass tr ansition temperature, T(g), is found to vary linearly with the cage vi brational frequency, nu. The variation of nu has been related to the a verage excess partial charge on the cage oxygen atoms and hence to the force constant. The observed linear variation of T(g) as a function o f nu has been rationalized on the basis of the cluster model of glass transition.
