We use QCD sum rules to investigate isospin-breaking effects in nuclea
r matter. The isospin-breaking condensate [NM\uuBAR-ddBAR\NM] is shown
to play an important role. In a reasonable model the neutron becomes
(0.9+/-0.6) MeV more bound than the proton, providing a possible solut
ion for the Nolen-Schiffer anomaly. The various contributions to the v
alue are analysed. The possible consequences for nucleon-nucleon isosp
in-breaking forces are discussed.
