Abstract
Skyrme fields approximating the bound states of three and four skyrmio ns are found by calculating the holonomies of suitable SU(2) instanton s. Part of this work requires construction of a new instanton of charg e four, with cubic symmetry. The instanton approach helps to clarify t he symmetries of the multi-skyrmion bound states, and also their asymp totic fields.
