Chromosomal characteristics seem to play a crucial role for the analys
is of the phylogenetic relationships within the plecotine bats, as sho
wn by a comparison of results obtained from morphological and chromoso
mal data with those from morphology only. Published descriptions of ka
ryotypes of the genera involved, however, are based on different chrom
osome-banding qualities and even contain several errors. We compare th
e different results using our own published chromosomal data and prese
nt a revised scheme of the chromosomal complements of the plecotine ge
nera.
