SURFACE ENGINEERING

The conception of >>Surface Engineering<< has been explained and a rev iew is given of the substratum's materials, as well as materials and p rocesses for modification of surface layers. Using the example of a >> duplex<< treatment (plasma nitriding + deposition of TiN by the PVD-pr ocess), the calculation of the stress profile and the strength profile has been described. A theoretical load bearing analysis has been acco mplished and confirmed by a wear test.
