Tin metal powder reacts readily with both Me2SBr2 and Prn3PI2 in dieth
yl ether under ambient conditions, producing the novel SnBr4(SMe2)2, w
hich contains both cis and trans isomers within the unit cell, and the
first complex of stoichiometry SnI4(PR3)2 to be isolated: both comple
xes have been crystallographically characterised.
