The paper deals with an original analytical approach (a holistic, syst
emic one) to the quality of business operations of an enterprise. It c
onsists of an economic estimation of success and its components, which
is supported by the reputation of the enterprise; both are consequenc
es of its behavior of a permanent concern. The key components and vari
ables of success are: efficiency (productivity, cost effectiveness), e
ffectiveness (competitive marketability, flexibility). Reputation depe
nds on orderliness (relations inside enterprise, creativity) and credi
bility (capability and reliability plus public and societal relations)
. Its motors are the entrepreneurship and intrapreneurship. The idea i
s presented in a figure and elaborated in a table, accompanied by expl
anations in text. It has been developed for decades and recently publi
shed in the author's new book (1992) on Enterprise's policy (in Sloven
ian). In this paper some refinements are made.
