CONTRIBUTION TO THE FLORA OF SILICA-SCALED FLAGELLATES IN MIKKELI, CENTRAL FINLAND

Silica-scaled flagellates (Synurophyceae, Chrysophyceae) and the genus Gyromitus (Incertae sedis) and their occurrence related to water temp erature, pH, conductivity and colour from lakes and small humic ponds near Mikkkeli, Central Finland are studied by means of light and elect ron microscopy. The 32 investigated water samples contained a total of 49 chrysophyte taxa, belonging to the genera Mallomonas (19 taxa), Sy nura (8 taxa), Chrysosphaesella (3 taxa), Spiniferomonas (10 taxa) and Paraphysomonas (9 taxa), together with one unidentified Paraphysomona s scale type and three taxa of Gyromitus. The taxonomy and ecology of the species are discussed.
