Abstract
The structural reliability of a cathode ray tube (CRT) may be investig ated by various methods, both experimental and numerical. The numerica l computer analysis has been predominantly performed using finite elem ent analysis (FEA). However, this is not without its problems. More re cently, the boundary element method (BEM) has emerged as an alternativ e to FEA for a variety of classes of problems. This paper presents an itemized comparison between the two different techniques for this appl ication, and investigates the suitability of the different techniques in CRT design.
