Jf. Vanstaden et Cj. Hattingh, A STUDY OF FACTORS INFLUENCING THE MASS-TRANSFER EFFICIENCY ACROSS PASSIVE MEMBRANES IN FLOW-INJECTION SYSTEMS, South African Journal of Chemistry, 49(3-4), 1996, pp. 47-52
The mass transfer efficiency across a passive membrane in flow injecti
on systems was studied under a range of conditions, to determine the m
aximum permeability obtainable through such a membrane. It was possibl
e to obtain a mass transfer of 60% dialysis across the membrane. The h
ighest percentage dialysis was obtained with the smallest recipient lo
op using a volume smaller than that of the donor loop. The practical c
onsequences of the results obtained show that with careful manipulatio
n of the volumes of donor and recipient channels with time, a dialysis
-flow injection system can be set up which can satisfy the needs of a
specific application. Controllable dilution of analyses through passiv
e membranes is possible, which expands the use of dialysis-flow inject
ion systems.
