M. Bald et al., ARTERIAL-HYPERTENSION IN CHILDREN AND ADO LESCENTS AFTER OPERATION FOR AORTIC COARCTATION - IMPORTANCE OF 24-HOUR BLOOD-PRESSURE MONITORING, Nieren- und Hochdruckkrankheiten, 23(5), 1994, pp. 243-245
24-hour-blood pressure monitoring was performed in 20 children and ado
lescents after surgical correction of aortic coarctation. There was an
incidence of arterial hypertension of 40 to 50% for casual blood pres
sure recordings and blood pressure monitoring, each. No difference was
found for systolic blood pressure comparing both methods, whereas dia
stolic blood pressure was significantly higher in blood pressure monit
oring. The diurnal rhythm of blood pressure was not altered. 24-h-bloo
d pressure recording is a valuable method for the diagnosis of arteria
l hypertension in children and adolescents after surgical repair of ao
rtic coarctation.
