The contribution of analytical psychology to male homosexuality will b
e analyzed under four aspects: gender identity, psychic polarity, coll
ective consciousness and individuation. The assumption of a disordered
gender identity of the male homosexual, which is of some influence al
so in analytical psychology, will be extensively discussed. In this co
ntext results of empirical studies will be considered. While male homo
sexuality will be related to psychic polarity and the process of indiv
iduation, indications will be given how the reductionistic position in
etiological research could be overcome. Male homosexuality is regarde
d as a legitimate form of human individuation.
