New complexes of thorium(IV) and dioxouranium(VI) have been synthesize
d by their action with hydrazones of isonicotinic acid hydroxide, name
ly (i) N-isonicotinamidobenzaldimine (INMB), (ii) N-isonicotinamidosal
icylaldimine (INMS) and (iii) N-isonicotinamido 2-hydroxy-1-naphthaldi
mine (INMHN) in different molar ratios. All these complexes have been
characterized by elemental analyses, solution studies, IR spectroscopi
c and thermogravimetric studies. X-ray powder diffraction studies of [
Th(INMB)2Cl4] reveal that it belongs to a monoclinic crystal system, w
hile [UO2(INMB)2(CH3COO)2] belongs to an orthorhombic crystal system.
