The title complexes have been synthesized by the reaction of lanthanid
e nitrate, Ln(NO3)3(H2O)x, with 4-[2-(4-dimethylamino phenyl)-vinyl]-1
-methylpyridinium nitrate in anhydrous ethanol and have been character
ized by TG-DTA, molar conductance, IR, UV, H-1 NMR spectra and X-ray p
owder diffraction. The crystal structure of the La complex was investi
gated using a four-circle single-crystal X-ray diffractometer. The La
atom is 12-coordinate with six bidentate nitrates forming a slightly d
istorted icosahedral geometry.
