Abstract
Perforative eye injuries in two patients were complicated by fulminant endophthalmitis. In both patients the cornea was free of micro-organi sms. Vitrectomy of the posterior pars plana was performed and the cont ents of the vitreous body were examined mycologically and bacteriologi cally. Fusarium moniliforme var. subglutinans and Pseudomonas species were isolated from both patients. Fungal and bacterial organisms penet rated the vitreous body via metal foreign bodies.
