Structural and functional changes in olfactory epithelium of laborator
y mice were studied following the treatment of nasal cavity with zinc
sulphate. Different concentrations of zinc sulphate caused olfactory e
pithelium cells destruction, moreover the degree of this destruction d
epended on concentration. Direct dependence between morphological rege
neration and the EOG amplitude increase was observed after the treatme
nt with 1 % zinc sulphate. The epithelium regeneration after the treat
ment with higher concentration (3 and 5 %) was slower and the EOG ampl
itude fell behind the increase of the olfactory epithelium thickness.
The application of different olfactory stimuli allowed to establish th
at the rate of reactions re-establishment differed with the odorous.
