The selective monohalogenation of dihexylsilane by a number of oxidant
s was studied. The most selective oxidant was found to be N-bromosucci
nimide, NBS, yielding products of monobromination with greater than 50
:1 selectivity. Various degrees of monoselectivity were found in the b
romination of other differentially substituted dihydro- and trihydrosi
lanes by NBS. (C) 1997 Academic Press.
