Abstract
The results presented here show that field control of second-harmonic generation (SHG) can be substantially enhanced in compositionally asym metrical wells. In an optimized step well the magnitude of second orde r susceptibility for moderate field (+/-80 kV/cm) is 2 orders of magni tude larger than that in the square well with the same applied field. Numerical results are presented for SHG at a CO2 wavelength for a squa re, graded, and step well.
