A kinetic isotope effect in Pu(V) disproportionation in nitric acid so
lutions have been observed in a heterogeneous system with phenyloctylp
hosphonic acid deposited on hydrophobized silicagel. The isotope separ
ation coefficient alpha for Pu-242/Pu-239 isotopes was found to be 1.0
22 at 25-degrees-C. The rate constant of Pu(V) disproportionation in t
his heterogeneous system was determined to be 5.0+/-0.6 l2mol-2s-1 at
25-degrees-C, [HNO3] = = 0.87-1.5 mol l-1 and 1:1 phase ratio (10% ext
ractant on the support).
