MALIGNANT CHONDROMYXOID FIBROMA - FACT OR FANCY - PRESENTATION OF 7 CASES AND REVIEW OF LITERATURE

The chondromyxoid fibroma as a benign bone tumour is described. The di fficult but extremely important differential diagnosis from chondrosar coma is discussed, and the question of the existence of malignant chon dromyxoid fibroma is examined. Cases of malignant chondromyxoid fibrom a that have been reported in the literature are described and critical ly analysed. Experience with seven chondromyxoid fibromas and two tumo urs misdiagnosed as malignant chondromyxoid fibromas are described. In view of the clear definition of chondromyxoid fibroma and chondrosarc oma the term malignant chondromyxoid fibroma is not justified and shou ld no longer be used.
