W. Qiu et al., MODELING THE INTERACTION BETWEEN LASER AND TARGET MATERIAL IN LASER MICROSPECTRAL ANALYSIS, Optics and Laser Technology, 26(3), 1994, pp. 157-166
The interaction between laser radiation and target material plays an i
mportant role in understanding and controlling any material processing
technique involving lasers. In this paper, a two-dimensional time-dep
endent model, based on heat transfer and energy conservation theory, h
as been developed to simulate the transient material behaviour in lase
r microspectral analysis (LMA). The spatial and temporal profile of th
e laser beam and the temperature dependent properties of the material,
such as absorptivity, heat capacity and thermal conductivity, are con
sidered. Finally, the experimental and computational results are compa
red and the interaction between the laser radiation and workpiece are
discussed.
