Abstract
An interferometric sapphire transducer has been used to test the super attenuator of the VIRGO laser interferometer gravitational wave anten na project. A test was carried out to characterise the horizontal disp lacement of the attenuator. The test showed the performance of the sup er attenuator to the transducer noise floor of 5 x 10(-15) m/square-ro ot Hz at 60 Hz.
