M. Roth et al., LIVING OLIGOMERIZATION OF ISOBUTYLENE USING DIISOBUTYLENE AND TRIISOBUTYLENE HYDROCHLORIDES AS INITIATORS, Macromolecules, 30(4), 1997, pp. 722-725
The living isobutylene oligomerization initiated by diisobutylene hydr
ochloride (1) or triisobutylene hydrochloride (2) in the presence of B
Cl3 and benzyltriethylammonium tetrachloroborate has been studied by g
as chromatography which allowed the detection of the individual oligom
ers 2, 3, 4, etc. The reactions followed second-order kinetics, first-
order with respect to initiator (1 or 2), first-order with respect to
BCl3, and zeroth-order with respect to isobutylene. A kinetic model ha
s been derived which explains these phenomena.
