Abstract
This paper focusses on the matching approach to labour market flows. I t briefly reviews the facts on gross worker flows for the UK. It then considers an alternative to the standard matching model which allows f or job search by the employed. This significantly affects the nature o f aggregate unemployment dynamics over the cycle. Finally, we consider the implications of the model for aggregate labour market dynamics.
