Abstract
Further examination of the ethyl acetate extract of a sea pen of Virgu laria genus furnishes three more new long chain cyclopentanone and gam ma-lactone derivatives (3-5) besides the two new sterols (1 and 2) rep orted earlier [J Indian chem Soc, 69 (1992) 150]. The structures of th e new compounds have been established as oxy-4-methyl-2(tetradeca-9Z-e nyl)-gamma-butanolide (3), methyl-2(tetradeca-3Z,6Z,9Z-trienyl)cyclope ntanone (4) and -2(tetradeca-3Z,6Z,9Z-trienyl)cyclopent-2-en-1-one (5) .
