Abstract
The emergence of a 2 million pixel 16:9 charge-coupled device (CCD) im ager has substantially advanced the overall performance of the HDTV ca mera. The protracted electronic pursuit of 35mm motion-picture film im aging quality is now effectively over This article compares the perfor mance attributes of an HDTV CCD camera with 35mm film from the viewpoi nt of parameters critical to originating high-end television programs, including camera sensitivity, picture sharpness, dynamic range, and n oise.
