We report on a search for the decay K(L) --> pi0nunuBAR by the Fermila
b E799 Collaboration. The partial width for this mode is related in a
calculable way to the CP violation parameters of the standard model. I
n particular, the decay K(L) --> pi0nunuBAR is predicted to proceed al
most entirely via a direct CP violating amplitude. No events were obse
rved, allowing us to set an upper limit on the branching ratio of B(K(
L) --> pi0nunuBAR) < 5.8 x 10(-5) at the 90% confidence level.
