Abstract
A putative sigma factor-encoding gene, rpoZ, was cloned from Streptomy ces aureofaciens. Its deduced protein product showed high similarity t o the putative sigma factor encoded by the Streptomyces coelicolor whi G gene. Disruption of rpoZ blocked differentiation at a stage between the formation of aerial mycelium and the development of mature spores.
