Abstract
The condensed-phase Baker Venkataraman rearrangement is an irreversibl e reaction, e.g. o-(-CH2CO)C6H4OCOPh-->o-(-O)C6H4COCH2COPh. The collis ion-induced mass spectra of these two ions show the corresponding gas- phase reaction to be reversible.
