C. Clercx et al., CLINICAL SIGNS AND DIAGNOSIS OF CANINE IN TRANASAL TUMORS - ANALYSIS OF 81 CASES, Annales de medecine veterinaire, 141(1), 1997, pp. 45-53
The paper describes clinical signs and diagnosis in 81 cases of intran
asal tumors n the dog, examined at the Small Animal Clinic of the Facu
lty of Veterinary Medicine of the University of Liege (1990-1995). Rec
ent diagnostic techniques and therapeutic options are discussed. The m
ost frequently encountered signs included a decreased or absence of un
ilateral air passage, observed in 78 cases (96%), and hemorrhagic disc
harge, observed in 65 cases (80%). Histopathology identified 2 benign
and 79 malignant tumors, 57 epithelial and 22 mesenchymatous, includin
g 2 lymphomas. In 74 cases, rhinoscopy identified an intranasal neopla
stic mass; in the 7 remaining cases, tissular material of undetermined
nature was observed, and histology of biospsied material confirmed th
e neoplastic nature. The time interval between the diagnosis and the d
eath of the animal (spontaneous or by euthanasia) was longer in dogs w
ith an intranasal sarcoma (mean time interval of 7 months) than in dog
s with an intranasal carcinoma (mean time interval of 3 months).
