The equilibrium and stability of some bounded plasma formations observ
ed in the atmosphere of the sun are analyzed. The discussion is restri
cted to axisymmetric configurations. The gravitational field is ignore
d. Exact solutions for equilibria and local conditions for their stabi
lity are derived for a particular class of current distributions. It i
s assumed that there are a uniform external magnetic field and an exte
rnal plasma of constant pressure.
