Abstract
While screening a Chlamydomonas reinhardtii cDNA library for sequences encoding ubiquitin conjugating enzymes, we detected a sequence encodi ng a G beta-like polypeptide. Using this cDNA as a probe in Northern a nalysis, we found that the corresponding mRNA is expressed regulated w hen cells are exposed to different stress conditions (heat shock, chil ling and photoinhibition). After cells were subjected to photoinhibito ry conditions, almost no mRNA encoding the G beta-like polypeptide was detected, whereas the other applied stresses did not lead to such a d ramatic effect.
