Rme. Richards et al., STUDY OF THE MUTUAL EFFECTS OF SULFADIAZINE AND CIPROFLOXACIN ON THEIR UPTAKES BY PSEUDOMONAS-AERUGINOSA, Journal of Pharmacy and Pharmacology, 46(6), 1994, pp. 530-532
A high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) assay was developed fo
r ciprofloxacin and sulphadiazine in Iso-sensitest broth. Combining th
e HPLC assay with cell dry-weight determinations indicated that both c
ompounds were able to enhance the uptake of the other by log phase Pse
udomonas aeruginosa cultured in the presence of the compounds. It is h
ypothesized that the increased bacterial uptakes are the reason for th
e enhanced antibacterial activity previously reported for combinations
of ciprofloxacin and sulphadiazine.
