Abstract
We have investigated the reaction of HCI with 2-methylisothiazol-3-one (1). In the presence of HCI, at elevated temperatures, 1 exists in eq uilibrium with the ring opened sulfenyl chloride (4). The existence of 4 has been proven by trapping with norbornene and 1-octyne.
